Mixed Up Geos - Spring/Summer 2017 (Geraldine Wharry)

Echoing Ettore Sottsass, best known as the instigator of the Memphis design group at the turn of the 80s, we analyse the strong graphic trend for a hypnotising mix of geometric shapes and bold colours.

Could this be an aesthetic rallying designers to lift up the mood post Brexit and Trump elections? Some designers want not only to convey optimism but also escapism through trippy graphics and imaginary spaces.


Louis Philippe de Gagoue, fashion photographer based in the Ivory coast's Abidjan sees his work as a way of making his dreams tangible. Whilst Raul Solis of LRS was inspired by club nightlife and urban culture saying “I wanted to make sure the collection exuded a trippy feeling — not in a Seventies way but in a new, modern way”.
